i have a question will a worn cutlass bearing make my boat vibrate has new prop and shaft

I've seen it happen. But if you have a new shaft, maybe thet didn't line things up properly.

it does have about 1/4 inch of play in it

Will deffinately cause a vibration. Stick in a new bearing, make sure it goes through the center of the stern tube, then check alignment.
She was a 1969 36 ft wooden beauty with big blue 440s that we'll miss forever.

1/4" ??? wow , you no longer have any bearing left it needs to be replaced asap be fore you damage the shaft .

Just replaced the cutlass in my 30" with the help of the forum.
Very easyily done with the strut removed. What A difference! Also had about an 1/8" wear.
