Tri-Cabin rear head holding tank question

Post by gruhs »

The level indicator for this holding tank is a red light mounted on a silver/metal plate about the size of a home light switch cover on the bulkhead in the rear head. It has a button below the red light that says "push to test". My question for opinions is this: Does pushing the button (which makes the red light come on) indicate that the bulb/curcuit is working, or that if the light comes on when button is pushed, the tank is 3/4 full?

According to what is written on the switch plate a lighted red light indicates a 3/4 full tank. But should the light just come on by its self at 3/4 full or are you testing for 3/4 full tank when you push the button?

I've owned the boat for 5-6 years and always thought this warning light system did not work because the light never came on before even when button was pushed. Today after a shower, for some reason I reached over and pushed the button and........... THE LIGHT CAME ON... first time ever. So naturally I know I can't rely on it's opinion without further testing but need to know how it was intended to work. Anyone have this same set-up, I would guess it is original equipment installed when the boat was new.

First of all welcome to the forum.

I have the same system in my tri-cabin and my red light comes on and stays on when the waste level in the holding tank has reached the point where it triggers the alert. Mine is like yours and is set for 3/4 full.

The test function is simply that - a test to verify that the circuit is working and that the bulb is good.

I am curious about where you keep your boat since you are in Valparaiso. I am at Washington Park Marina in Michigan City.

Very good, thanks Tim, now I know.
We have a slip at the East Chicago Marina right next to the Ameristar casino.

Good deal Gary. Maybe we'll run into you this summer. What's the name on your boat?

Tim, yes that would be nice to trade visits sometime during the season if we don't bump into each other. Name of the boat is "Any Time Any Place 3" We just kept the name that was on it when we purchased from Rob Roberts at the yacht club in Burns Ditch.
