Oil Pressure.
When I started last night the engine the oil guage almost immediately jumped to 80psi and was stuck there. I revved a little and the guage flutter back and forth aorund 80. I was thinking I must have a loose connection messing around the engine and all. A little later when I re-started the engine again, the oil pressure was acting as it had previously floating around 40 at idle and going up as engine speed increased. But never really going much about 60. Haven't been out of the dock yet, but my question is where should my Oil Pressure be on this Chrysler 318.

Good question and you will get various answers. Rule of thumb, you should have 10psi of oil pressure per 1000 RPMs. Your pressure will be highest with cold engine and lowest fully warmed at idle. I suspect you have gauge or sender or wiring problems, 80 is not realistic. Easiest check is to temporary install a mechanical gauge in place of the oil sender unit, this will give you real information and you can go from there...........John

That is 10psi of pressure per 1000rpm MINIMUM......normal would probably be around 40-50psi at rpm warm and 20-30 at idle warm.....more is better but 80 is too high...........
