454 cooling system

Post by WALTER GURAVSKAS »

I have a 1984 10 meter express, with factory FWC .However the lower thermostat housings are raw water housings, with 2 hose connnections. one measures 1 3/4 the other is 1 1/4 they have rudder caps on them. I want to replace the caps do to there age, I've searched high and low for them with no luck ! I've been told to use a hose with a brass cap as a replacement, I would rather replace with the rubber caps. any idea where i my be able to buy them??? THANK'S IN ADVANCE for any help....

Walter, not sure how it's set up on your engine. I know what you need, I think... but last I saw one of these caps, was on a old Chrysler cooling system.

Try these folks, I think they have what you need. Hope it helps.

If it's the same as my old 1983 454's (before the diesel refit) I replaced my worn out caps with standard rubber expansion plugs which are easily found at your local NAPA store.

Make sure to insert them fully and tighten them properly, as one of mine popped out underway once.
