Raw Water intake Scuppers F-32

Post by Larrys78 »

Every summer I have to hire a diver to dig out sea weed and Ell grass from the raw water intakes under my boat it seems if I troll through any amount of surface crap it sucks into the intakes and restricks water flow.
I was wondering if anybody has had the same issue and found a way to resolve this. :?:

My boat is hauled and cleaned twice each season
Before spring rockfish and by fall rockfish. I will have barnicle issues if not but not the grass issues. Maybe try to rig a t where as you could back flush through the intake and out through strainer grate.

I haul her out every year it's not growing grass its sucking up surface sea weed and grass, a very common site in Puget Sound. I've tried back flushing, didn't work and the sea strainers are clean because it clogges at the scuppers or intakes.

I do have the original strainers at the intakes and that is what get plugs I'm thinking of swapping them out or adding additional ones over the exsisting. Was wondering if anyone has had this problem and what they did to resolve it and if it worked.

I've had that problem before but the only way i've found to stop it is to stay away from the grass and junk. As long as the motor is sucking water what ever strainer is in place will plug up.

If you do not have screens on the outside of the boat, you can do the following:

Close seacock.
Place temporary hose on seacock that extends above water line.
Keep it there!
Open seacock.
Ram dowel or similar rod down through the hose to the outside of the boat
Remove rod, close seacock, reinstall original hose, open seacock, open a beer.
I needed a less expensive hobby, so I bought a boat!
