Hatch design for 36' Tri-Cabin
I am the newest owner of a great 1980 Tri-Cabin! The companion way hatch though needs to be rebuilt which I am about to tackle. I have the hatch, but was wondering on how it was attached to what seemed like some kind of rails to slid on. I see holes and marks where there appeared to be some kind of slide rails - but would appreciate any pictures or advice as to how this hatch attaches to I can rebuild it. Thanks!
I found that I had these photos from when I first purchased the boat before we were able to get it all cleaned up so please disregard the dirt. This shows how the rail is mounted on each side of the hatch and what the rail looks like from the end view.
The carriages are mounted to the underside of my hatch, obviously, and on mine the entire thing will slide off the end. The hatch has a wooden strip mounted vertically under the hatch that provides a mounting place for the internal hatch lock and also acts as a stop when it slides full length and contacts the door. If I want to remove the hatch, I have to remove the door to enable it to slide all the way off.
Hope this helps.
