1981 10 Meter Trojan
I'm looking @ a 1981 10 meter and would like to know if this is a Delta-Conic Hull. The boat has rear dumping exhaust. I have read that the Delta-Conic boats have the mid-ship exhaust in the express models? Any help on this year of a boat would be greatly apperceptive.
Thanks in advance, Troy

heavily modified Trojan International.
Better get a real good survey here.
The interior bulkheads were intended to function as part of the stiffening system for strength.
This boat has undergone significant modifications, including the removal of the forward salon to fwd cabin bulkhead.
May not be an issue, but better get a surveyor who knows these boats well.

some of the early models did feature 4 portlites per side, this may be one of them.
The dash and electrical panels are not factory. Again, not a problem if properly done, but that then becomes the issue.
Looking at these photos a second time I see numerous modifications, some of which are big time expensive items like all of that deck furniture, the HVAC compressor relocated to the inside of a seat storage area, completereplavement and expansion of the electrical panel, the extention of the galley at the expensef the nice setee that converts into two single bunks, the removal of the genny (assuming it had one) and the relocation of the batteries in the genet position, that battleship grey paint on the aft deck,
I don't like the vinyl (r leather) coveres deating in the cabin, it can't breathe and will be hot to sleep on if converted into a berth, the replacing of the functional dinette with a piece of lexan - well you just lost that nice hidden, self locking drawer for all your silverware.
By the way, that drawer is made with grooved and tabbed wood and is finished on the inside.
Why replace something that wrks well just for the sake of replacing or redesigning or re-engineerng it?
Why in the world would you replace the Crusaders with Mercruisers?
Why eliminate the factory side exhaust?
Lots of questions here.
Again, if it is done correctly . . .
but what if it's not?
Ths boat sleeps six from the factory, this modification will onlyu sleep four and the privacy facto with the solid bulkhead that formerly seperated the fwd cabin is permanently gone.
Don't expect to be using the factory wiring diagram, it won't apply.
Again, why all the changes, replcements and modifications?
Did this boat suffer a serious degree of damage requiring the engines, interior and other components to be replaced and or removed?
Was she partially submerged at one time? That might explain the electrical system being replaced alongwith the deck furniture and all the interior cabinetry.
I could be all wrong, she LOOKS really nice, I love the countertop but all this replacement would raise some questions.
Could be a great boat, but the survey will be more than critical on this particular example.
Why is there naked wood on top of the stringers below the engines?
The factory bi-fold doors on the electrical panel work well and seal most of the water out. What's up with those cheap looking non-sealing lexan covers attached to the factory hinges? What was the gain with that?
Sorry, I just don't get this boat
It reminds me of one on Yachtworld in St Petersberg FL that was similarly gutted, but left unfinished except that one has Yanmar 370 HP diesels in her.
If I can locate it I'll postthe link.
BE CAREFUL !

"Why in the world would you replace the Crusaders with Mercruisers? "
It would a better choice IMO , don't get me wrong Crusaders are fine But given the choice I would go with the Mercruisers , choice could do with better dealer support in their area .
"Why eliminate the factory side exhaust? "
Some people do not like the side exhaust ( like me ) and I have been told by one person that changed it that the boat ran much better . Like any thing else there are pros and cons

They list the year of they engines 1982 . Is it possible it came with mercs ? Maybe by a Customer request ?
Maybe the engines are newer ? the boat is 29 years old so a re-power would not be abnormal .

Phts19, 20 & 21 show what appears to be unpainted 2x4 or 2x6 lumber on top of the stringers, below the engines.
Photo #8 shows a stepped forward deck. This is a modification.
Looks to me like the AC compressor (photo#22) has been installed into the seat storage area on photo #9 (am I seeing this wrong?)
Also note that the seat bases have been cut off at the rear, I wonder how stable they could be ?
With the factory seating intact, the aft deck remains clear.
All the seating cockpit seating, the L bench seat, the full aft bench seat and even the wet bar are all modular construction and can be easily and quickly removed via the large custom wingnut fittings.
What was gained by changing all the seating out?
The hardtop, outriggers and canvas seem to be really nice.
A thorough investigation is needed here as there must be more to the background of this boat.
Those 2x4's are VERY SCARY !

My name is RWS and I am a Trojan Addict . . .
Now that we have established THAT (as if you didn't already know) here's some additional detail.
The factory wiring in th eengine room is run throgh a grey rectangular chase with a removable, sliding cover.
Thre should be one along the starboard stringer, however all I can see (photo 21) is a mass of exposed red wiring.
The lid that seals the built in waste tank should be between the center stringers and runs from the fwd engine room bulkhead to the edge of the engine room bilge.
This lid is gel coated on both sides and has a built in baffle.
It also supports the battery box.
PK's boat was missing this lid and he had to fabricate a new one. Photo 21 shows something there that does not apper to be the factory lid at all, but what looks like a painted piece of plywood.
So why then was the battery box moved aft to occupy the spot where the gen set was?
My factory Crusader engines had the same style of adjustable motor mounts as seen in these photos. The mounts were attached to a white oak wooden block (four of them) The forward, outer block on my starboard Crusadre had some very serious cacking problems and should have been replaced. In an effort to save it the previous owner had wrapped it with fiberglass cloth. It was a mess.
It seems like all the wood on this boat has been replaced - motor mount blocks, electrical panel doors, deck furniture, galley table, all cabin drawer fronts, etc.
Look at the mass of speghetti wiring coming out of the rear of the battery box (photos 20 & 21) The wiring run that goes along thatbulkhead is gone too.
This boat DID have a generator, as is evidenced by that heavy white wire coming down to the right hand side of the battery box. That's the genny wire that goes to the 120 volt sie of the electrical panel. It appears that thiswire is terminated folded up along side the stbd side of the battery box (photo 21)
The drawers added to the base of the fwd cabin entrance don't look right. (photos 13 & 14)
Photo #3 clearly shows the non-factory exhaust port on the aft corner of the starboard side abd photo #2 shows the same on the port side..
My guess is that this is (was) a chartered fishing boat.
Was I being too harsh and critical, probably.
Still, get a good survey and be careful.
Watch out for that wood atop the stringers.
That said, in answer to your question . . .
this is a 1981 Trojan International with a Delta Conic Hull.
Guess that was the short answer yuou were looking for originally.....

I would agree with that. All the original wood that has been removed and the missing electrical box conduit and generator makes me think it might have been sunk.troyh wrote:Wow thanks for all the info.. Maybe I should just let this one pass by and keep on looking.
