F26 STEERING QUESTION

Post by trojanmanXS »

I might have asked this one before but not sure I had any responses.
How does the steering system work on the f26 with flybridge? the flybridge wheel works,it moves the rudder. the cockpit main wheel does not do anything what should I be checking for basics on the cause? is there a lever/switch that disables one while the other is working?

if its hydraulic steering the other steering wheel will not move. if its mechanical( i.e. chain drive) then both will move when either is turned. could be as easy as a shear pin or key has slipped out of the gear and the thing is just turning on the shaft. gearbox?
what kind of steering do you have or do you know? can you see behind the mounted helm and check if something has been taken loose or has come loose? has it ever worked since you have owned the boat?

believe mine to be hydrolic steering. I asked a fella this am and he said possibly at the main wheel, the one that doesnt work there is a cap at the collum he said remove it and make sure fluid is in there , he said the fluid can be transmission fluid ? or possibly an air bubble in the line ? make any sense?

ATF for emergency use only . You need to use marine hydraulic steering fld ( not power steering fld.), If you have hydraulic steering , I would look at the lower helm and see what type you have and if its even hooked up . A lot of thing can break or be changed over the years
