swim step

Post by gettaway »

I am still working on my engine repower, but was side tracked a bit by the holiday and my youngest son graduating from high school!

I also lucked upon a teak swim step for LARK, so I cut it down, plugged some drilled holes, sanded until I burned up my porter cable sander, and after work today got a coat of SIkken Cetol on

it will be a very welcome and much needed inprovment over the previous swim step

the swim step that was on the boat appears to have not been factory, it was 3/4" ply wood, with 1/2" plywood attached to that and then encased in a fiberglass cloth and resin "shell" the 1/2" piece was completely water logged and rotted in some places and the damn thing wieghed 200 pounds ! I kept thinking that I missed some screws holding it to the brackets becase it felt "attached" ended up just being heavy.

swim step up date, I actually installed it in late june, the boat projects came to a screeching halt when I had a heart attack in June.

Looks great! Any coincidence between the old 20# swim platform and the heart attack in June?

Sikkens is very good paint - used it on my Sunbeam Tiger. Prefer Awlgrip for Fiberglass though.

How long will the Cetol last in the Sun?
