Filthy Bilge CLEANED AND PAINTED

Post by bkwesq »

What a mess of a job, i'm not the best painter in the world to begin with but since this job is 95% hidden under wood i did it myself. It took 12 hours on Saturday that is after about 30-35 hours of prep time cleaning the bilge from front to back. The boat was full of water and sludge for 6 years before I got it to my house. At least i know there are no leaks! BilgeKote did work very well i have to admit.

As always the pics are on my blog, I welcome your comments and criticism!

Engine update, i was unable to salvage anything from the old 318 so I need to get most of the components new/rebuilt. The bilge was the final on boat project before the winter. I will be putting back all the restored wood this week and will take a few pics. If you have not painted an engine compartment by hanging down from the deck I welcome you to try, it feels as if you are slowly being cut in half with a butter knife.

I believe that I have a freshly rebuilt raw water pump for a 318. Let me know if you are interested in it.

Hey BKwesq........checked out your photos, looking good! You will be glad you made the effort now. When the motor is in and everything is back to geather it will look great and be well worth the effort.................John

Looking good. I see you went with white, which I prefer. I have seen a lot of Trojans with grey bilges. I know it is keeping with factory, but think the white helps in seeing any potential leaks, and makes the engine pop.

Very Good Point 8) Maybe a liltle black diesel oil in the bilge is not so bad , It sure good for the soul hearing them run
