A/C Help - Lunaire

Post by Seahawk93 »

My aft climate control unit seems to have had some squirrels into the wiring with the previous owner. It appears the thermostat quit telling the compressor when to turn off and on, so it was hot-wired to run all the time. Not as noticeable in the summer as it is in the winter, it will heat you out in about 15 minutes.

I was hoping to find a new (used working) control somewhere. Does anybody have one of these or know where I might find one? I am thinking this might be a stretch but figure no harm in asking. Thanks!

I would say if the mode selector and fan speed selector work in a satisfactory manner that you should just wire a new thermostat to the compressor. Your problem is probably in the Atari vintage thermostat module and not in the wiring. A broken solder on a printed circuit board or a burn out transistor is the most likely culprit. Just save yourself a headache and wire a new 'stat. You may even already know of a more advantageous place to install it and should take advantage of that oppertunity should you decide to go this route. Its only my suggestion, I am sure other here will have more good input to help solve your dilemma. Good luck getting it sorted.

Thanks. That's likely the solution I will go with this week. These older controls are nowhere to be found. A company called Coastal Climate Control has an FX-1 model controller that should work fine but I'm on the fence about dropping the money into an older system.

It kind of begs a larger question related to the difficulty in finding a replacement for the larger system when it decides to stop working. I'm not familiar with what would be available these days for a split system and I think maybe "custom" might be required.

Having been in the AC business for a number of years and reseraching these marine systems. New ones as packages and split systems are available. Lunaire is not longer but there are many others. Beacon sells some.

I have sent you a PM.
