why do you have to pump fresh water to cool the engiens ? why couldent you have a pipe that could be put on the undreside so that that could be a radiator for the coolant ???
A "pipe" under the hull ( keel cooling ) works OK on displacement hulls but do to drag is not used on planing hulls . also a good keel cooler can be more costly then a heat exchanger as its more then a pipe . A stock coolant/water pump on the average engine may not be good enough to move the coolant all that distant . And you would still need a raw water pump to cool the exhaust . Putting dry exhaust on a pleasure boat opens up a new set of problems.
BTW fresh water is the closed/coolant side . Raw water is the water that comes from outside the boat . A fresh water cooled engine using coolant to cool the engine ( raw water cools the coolant w/aheat exchanger ) a raw water cooled enging uses raw water only to cool the engine .

Something to be aware of successful Captain's use the title Admiral rather than momma
Because the seller will not be recouping all that they put into the boat should not dissuade you from paying a Professional to survey the boat.
It is possible that the $$ put in were in fact wasted and that therefore that amount and more is still needed to make the vessel seaworthy especially for offshore use.

Not enough airflow over the radiator like a road vehicle.
