Engine room painting F-32

Post by TADTOOMUCH »

Has anyone painted their hull of the engine room and also painted their engine. I have a 1978 F-32 and it is in very good condition but I would like the engine and engine room hull to have a nice clean look like the rest of the boat. I had cleaned the hull of the engine room just before haul out with a good degreasing cleaner and then scrubbed and rinsed the hull down. Lost a lot of old grey paint from the hull that I would like to cover again for protection and to make it look clean again. I also would like to repaint my Chrysler M360's to make them look newer and also make it easy to spot any issues later on. They are pretty much leak free and only have minor rust and flaking of the blue paint. Any suggestions on supplies and methods?

i repainted all the areas under the cockpit on my f32 when i replaced my fuel tanks this past spring with gray interlux bilgekote. i liked the way it went on and it looked almost to nice to cover up again. i would think that this would be a good product to also paint the engine room with have you ever used it before?

I agree with g36 on this. I used the same paint to re-do the engine compartment/bilge area on my chris craft scorpion. Very user friendly paint and the results were great. Make sure the area is cleaned very well and sand the areas that you are painting. Good luck.

Interlux Bilgekote Gray works great. Need only one coat. I washed everything down with lestoil first. I sprayed my Mercs with gloss black mercury paint. I haven't started them yet, so don't know how it will hold up.

Doug,

I consider myself fortunate that work has been very busy, thus keeping me on the road the last few months, Reno, Sacramento, Montana, San Francisco, Sacramento again, plus work at the home office, however,
the engines are in, preliminary alignment is done, throttles and shifters are installed and I still have some exhaust and cooling system plumbing to take care, Unfortunately, the wiring harness quick coupling pin connectors do not match so I have to splice the wiring harness'

We are leaving for St Croix in the morning until the 2nd, so no time in the christmas break for any work.

I hope to have them wrapped up by the end of july. Merry Christmas to you

and to you Paul, its been a great year, and I feel pretty darn lucky and privledged to have found this forum and of the online friends here.

This forum has been a great source for knowledge, to share triumphs and setbacks, to see the great things others have done to their Trojan Yachts and how we all enjoy them in our own ways.

This is the time we tend to look back at our year and I know that I am very thankful, one to still be alive, to have family and friends, and that extends to all of you here, and of course my love of the ocean, the water and the boat....something I think we all here share

Another vote for Bildgecoat. 5yr since applied, looks like new. Be sure to prep / use the recommended cleaner. It think it was 202.

Engine room painted with Devoe epoxy. Epoxy works well, as there is no UV exposure.
