Paul,
Thanks for creating the new post, I love the look of the transom door, jst a little "gun shy" about hacking great holes in the transom, how long did the cut out take, from beginning to end? I'm trying to get up the nerve to do it, of course then I have to extend the swim platform as well. Oh well, what would we be doing if we werent messing around on boats, huh?

Yes....there is a boat in that pic too...LOL !

I guess in total the walk thru took about 8 hours over three different days....was fairly easy to cut, after getting the nerve to start - used the old reciprocating saw....I was in no rush while doing it, and had fully planned it out, start to finish. Cost about $160

The door is made of HDPE board....the fabric you see in one of the pics is sewn to the camper sides to keep bugs out while our two mini schnauzers use it as a swinging "doggy door"

The swim platform & accessories, well, that was another thing...likely about 15 hours into that project, with a cost of about $675

We spend ALOT of time on & off the back of the boat while on the hook, and are extremely happy with our set up.

I respect that it is not for everyone.

That is what i plan to do to our 1978 f26. How long did it take to install.
I have been looking for info on the net for a while. I have a 90 pound Lab with a bum leg, 8 grand kids, while on the hook. oh yah, and an 18 pack. That will make on and off much easier. I will photo journal as i go. Paul, do you have any words of wisdom before I start ?

don't want to open up a big can of worms here but...

I notice in your avatar that you have a flybridge 26. That is an added stress & weight to the superstucture and hull that I did not have to consider when doing my walk thru. Not to mention you boat in a different environment then I.

My only advice would be that you have a very specific plan in mind on how you would be re-enforcing your opening.

Custom made Stainless steel U-style frame comes to mind, bolted thru your horizontal stringer that runs below your scuppers...then covered in several layers of woven fiberglass and resin including the entire surface opening of the walk thru.

Note: keep the opening above the scupper holes, and keep the opening fairly narrow.

Many members here would likely suggest that you not do this, being a flybridge 26 - If you asked them...

I say do your homework and ask yourself if the outcome would de-value your boat to the point that you would risk its any re-sale value. Not to mention the viewpoint of a marine surveyor when insuring the boat.

As I said before in previous posts, my 40 year old can become a garden planter if need be, and re-sale value does not concern me.

luckly I too have a great eye catching addition to my F-25 rebuild. think im going to add the door as well tho, any detailed help would be great. can share my trophy to LOL

keep in mind trophys like these like to sit next to other trophys and share the bench so you have to bring your trophy to show off as well.
