i've been reading this thread for a day or two and i'm curious about the fram filters. my mechanic has recommended and used fram ph8a filters for my engine for the last few years. both on the f-32 and now on the tri cabin. i've never experienced a problem with them and they seem pretty solid. can you guys please elaborate? also, what do you guys suggest in the future? my engine is a 351 ford short block.Lawman wrote:-- Congratulations !! Definately a good project !! loved the video, sounds good, but I hope you have gotten rid of those cheap FRAM oil filters by now??
thanks.

I also used them for years with no problem, but then I heard about how cheap they are made, now I use NAPA Gold filters which are made by WIX. There are alot of good filters out there. If you do Google search, you'll see what I mean.

Lawman, thanks, the engine in that Youtube video is not mine, and its kind of hard to hear the real sound on a you tube video on a laptop
mine sound better through mufflers !
Oil Filter? no offense Lawman but;
Aaron, I am with you on the Frahm filters, I have used them for years on everything, boats, forklfts, tractors, welder engines, cars and trucks and have never had a problem, I have heard of oil filters in the general sense blow out when an oil pump bypass has failed and the pressure exceeds the filters stated pressure capacity.
Or, lack of maintenance

After seeing how clean my oil is after 2,500 miles (on my Excursion) with my new Fleetguard COmbu (Venturi & Stratapore) oil filter, I'll never use a cheap oil filter again.
Its amazing - the oil looks like new - can hardly read the dip stick because its still so clear. $35 well spent for the best.

Fram ,not on anything I own . seen shell swell and leak , never a issue with a ac on the same engines . On my Cummins I use fleet guard or AC everything else I try to use AC .
Arron on your boat the AC filter is PF2 my choice but its not my boat
As far as Napa they look to be good and I have used them . as far as being made by Wix that fine but that doesn't mean there the same . I sure the will make it to any spec NAPA wants if the say better then the normal wix then they will make it that way . if the they say make it cheap do you think Wix will say no ?? Not saying there not the same I don't know .

Through the years I think I have used about every filter manufacturer there is on numerous motorcycles, boats, cars, and trucks. Always bought what was on sale........NEVER had an issues caused by an oil filter........having said that, somewhere back when I started building high HP small blocks I heard Napa Gold was good so that's what I now use on everything, including my Trojan 350's....................John

I used to own a 1979 chevy malibu w/ a 305 engine, I could not keep a fram filter tight on that engine to save my a**! went to an ac filter no problems, I have also heard of them collapsing internally.

i spoke with someone at my local NAPA store and before i even got the words 'fram oil filter for marine engine' out of my mouth he said, ''stop right there". he explained how some/most fram filters internal parts (cardboard) can come loose and get sucked into the engine. he told me that NAPA GOLD 1515's are the right ones for my engines. so, in the spring, that's what i'll use.
thanks guys. believe it or not, they are only a buck more than what i pay for the fram's.

That maybe true but a AC filter has a much better chance of not blowing then the fram . seem many a fram swelled up , never a AC and don't remember any other brands that have .
