I guess due to my location and the current smuggling this area encounters I'm better off then most. We have a real nasty smuggling problem here between the U.S. and canada so not only do we have a small army of border patrol stationed here we have the luxury of ALL kinds of law , lets count we have border patrol/state police/village police/park police/opp/U.S.customs agents"that patrol"and what appeasr to be some sort of off branch of border patrol named , I.C.E. they also have drones flown in from nearby army base fort drum to monitor our river system. you cant run this river at night without one of these branches knowing or watching your every move. alot of folks think we are overpoliced here but if your not doing anything wrong then scew it bring more in even. there really not that bad as I was at the range with my son when he was younger around 10yrs old and the border patrol was down there qualifying as they must do so many times a year and one had a small auto machine gun, my boy was glued to it and then the officer asked if he wanted to try it,,,,yeah they let my 10yr old try and auto 40cal. what was nice was they would utilize federal ammo of which they would leave ALL their brass where it lay. we would collect all this brass as federal ammo used a good quality brass and I reload my own so saved me $$$ and have enough from them to supply a platoon :P

I've got a motion sensor light set up at the front of my slip. When someone approaches the front of my boat, it lights up the whole area. One of the lights faces forward, the other floods the inside of the slip for security and is a big help when pulling into my dock at night stern in. I'm also thinking of setting up a fake security camera with a flashing red LED in a very visible spot. Just lighting up the place when someone approaches and the thought that they might be caught on camera is usually enough to make them run and keep them from thinking about coming back.
