COAST GUARD AUXILLARY / US POWER SQUADRONS
Dove tailing into Prowlerfishes Poll, how many of you have taken at least the basic seamanship course from the Coast Guard Auxillary or US power squadron?

Question is not complete
I have not taken a course from the power squadron, however, I have attended and completed the USCG small boat operations school at York Town, VA when in the USCG reserve on active duty for my two weeks annual and managed to pass. If that counts then I do not have a choice on your questionaire?

How did you know I was going to do this next ?
I put down "STATE MANDATED BOATING SAFETY COURSE" but I have taken a few others ( boat Us C.G. ), I did not need the state Course for a while ( old age LOL ) but its a life time thing so why not .

I think your more then covered for "US COAST GUARD AUXILLARY BASIC SEAMANSHIP" I think it would be imposable to post all the courses .larryeddington wrote:Question is not completeI have not taken a course from the power squadron, however, I have attended and completed the USCG small boat operations school at York Town, VA when in the USCG reserve on active duty for my two weeks annual and managed to pass. I was a coxswain in the USCGAUX. We had to complete almost all of the tasks that the active duty guys did. The year I earned my coxswain pin, I was on the water every other weekend.

I was there in 1972 I think, trained on the 31 boats, they brought that beautfull twin 41 boat in as I was finishing and never got to run one it, we all drooled over it though. After that I was a Coxswain PS1 on the Houston Ship Channel, there we used the old 30 boats, good boats but that 671 Detroit diesel setting in a non insulated cowl would leave your ears ringing after a few hours of use.
I thought they did away with the 31 as a poor design that would take a dive in a wave, at least that is what they said they were going to do. Fond memories of Wormly Creek.

The 41s were cool but everyone really wanted a shot at the self righting 44 motor lifeboat used in the heavy seas in the Northwest. I was told that they do occasionaly 360 surf rolls to experience it. All crew is strapped down to deck but you would have to hold your breath longenough for the boat right itself, that would be scarry.
