My aluminum deck supports were beyond saving and broke then taking them apart. They are aluminum pipe/tubing that is threaded on both ends. I purchased 3/4 tubing to make new supports. Any Idea of the best way to thread the ends? my tap and die set doesnt go that large. I don't want to use a course pipe thread . If the die is the way to go where can I get one that big?

I think the thread idea is important for site specific adjustment.
Ditto the machine shop idea

[quote="yorklyn"]Here's my first attempt using a 1" thread cutting die. What a PITA! the other 5 supports may be going to the machine shop to be threaded.
I said it sucked....

You were absolutly right!!!! I can be a bit of a hardhead sometimes (according to my wife!) and like to try stuff on my own. I'm sure the large size tap and die set I purchased to attempt this cost more than the machine shop would have charged! Hell I'll probably make the other 5 supports up, bitching and complaining under my breath the entire time! LOL
