I've seen this sort of thing done before. Its a fools move. Households A/C's have no place on board. Espescially if it was being plugged into the boats 110v system. I think you had mentioned evidence of faulty wiring and burn marks, etc during your repairs so far. Now you know part of the reason why you found fried wiring. You also know why not to use a window A/C in the cabin of your boat too. There are portable marine units you can buy which are designed for this sort of application.jefflaw35 wrote:here ya go. Im sure having the huge house A/C was nice. but look at this hole!!!

OH I agree CP totally, unfortunatly I will never know the cause or causes becuase I have found everything from hot wires screwed to wood panels with jumpers, to cabin lights and radio wired for power with speaker wire. He had 6 wires leads comming off of one hot bar in the the the fuse panel, while all the rest were empty. man i cant wait to rewire this boat...
I like the woodwork of course so I would patch the hole, then overlay with 3/16" teak veneered ply on both port and strb (helm) sides to even it out. I think it would look awesome.

thats a good Idea D. we like the wood now to, but....we are really big into fishing, and I am making a full wash down deck. I dont want any worries. Hate to see the wook get beatin from washing down 5 times a week of wash down. like i said, i have alot of options. I hate to see the wood look go but i can see all white being nice to..its a hard desion LOL

Debate is good Paul, and there is more than one way to look at most situations. I say though, that unless you are running a dedicated circuit (i.e. nothing else on it whatsoever) AND you have replaced the factory wiring on that circuit to an acceptable gauge for the distance and amperage, AND made sure the wiring from the shore power hookup to the AC distribution panel is in proper order, AND have the proper breaker installed on that dedicated circuit, you are playing with fire. Quite literally. Most residential codes now state even in a house window units should be on thier own circuit, and often the plugs on the unit are now designed to prevent anything else from being plugged into the same socket with them.
Like with anything else though. Folks may have a different take. I personally would like to have my boats sit nicely to the waterline rather than burn to it.

Apparently Jeff hasn't run into too much proper wiring in his boat. I see many spools of tinned wire in his near future so he can get things right.prowlersfish wrote:I agree with what you say, thats why I say wiring up to Parr . I should have said wired properly for the job .
