hard top solution ???

Post by rspecops »

I am planning on putting a hard top above the flybridge on my F 26. Anybody got any pictures of an F 26 F/B with a hard top. I just can't seem to come up with a design for the support or tubing that will support the top and still flow with the lines or design of the boat. Don't want it to look gaudy and not enhance the look of the boat. Thanks..

Ask P-fish for pics of the H/T on his 36 for good ideas on a design that look good on these boats.

Ask Ross for a design when you are ready to buy.

Make sure your 26 F/B won't become unstable with all the extra weight. Having a bridge up there already adds a lot to it and a hardtop on top of that may just be too much.

The style of my boat and bridge is different . a F25/26/27 and the f30 ( not clean machine) are very similar and if you could find one with a hard top it could give you some ideas . I thought some one here posted a photo of of one . wish I could remember who .

You would really need to watch the weght up top.[/img]

I reccomend you get a bimini top. A fly bridge hard top would look ponderous on the f26 (homemade even) To me, the flybridge alone almost looks out of proportion, causing an overbuilt look prevelant on so many aft cabin and express cruiser style boats. pThe extra weight, even a little, that high up will create quite a pendulum effect. This model already rolls a great deal in any kind of seas. Plus I don't believe you would ever be able to trailer it.

The OP has a hard top with a flybrige on it .He is looking for a hard top to go on the fly bridge . Jeff's hard top is over the lower helm . The hard top Jeff has really makes his boat stand out and look more up to date .Its my favorite thing about his boat.

hard top solution ??

Post by rspecops »

Thanks for the many inputs. Boat already has a bimi top, may just have to stick with that. Sure don't want to put something up there that may add to any potential roll effect. I personally don't mind but I take a lot of people fishing out in the gulf and it never fails even on days with 2 footers and you just can't stay out of the trough someone always gets sick.

Hard to see the details of my buddy's F32 hardtop in this photo but here's a look.

Unfortunately he had the details on the old trojanownersclub website under projects but the database seems to be gone.
Basically he used a thin plastic sheet that he could bend to the shape of the top of the bimini supports.
If you are handy I'm sure you could make something equally light... it does not need to have much strength as it has nothing ontop of it, just has to support it's own weight and wind load.
I'll see if I can find anything more detailed.
