I am 48, 49 in a few weeks.being a secretive guy I'm not gonna tell what I do in the summer for work.... winter I snowplow mostley commercial lots and have 7 trucks a couple of loaders, bobcat and a backhoe to move snow with. bought my first boat when I was 10, earned the money picking worms and selling to the fishermen, it was a 16 ft ceaderstrip, one of my dads friends borrowed it to fish in and sank it, did not get another boat till 2 years ago when I found a good deal on a sailboat. the night before I was to finalize the deal I was checking online to check boat values anf saw a 36 ft trojan trifly. I got up early and drove a few hours and bought it on the spot, drove back to Toronto and the wife says so we are boat owners? (thinking I had bought the 29ft sailboat) I sheepishly explaind what I had bought (remember it is easier to beg forgiveness than ask permission) she kinda flipped out, but after a year she has started to come around. She has been a saint putting up with the work I have been doing and I am trying to finish before launch this year(yeah right)Been married for 24 years and we dated for 6 years, 2 awesome kids boy and girl 14 and 16, and Dexter our hundred pound yellow lab! Cool thread getting to know a bit about you all!

I'm an even 50 and have been boating all my life. In fact I can trace my family back several generations of boaters and have many family pictures of some great old boats.
My great grandfather owned a house on the water in the Bronx right across from City Island and he rented row boats to people that wanted to go fishing. I am lucky enough to have early video of my family, did I mention they had 16 kids, swimming in the waters of Eastchester Bay and many beautiful old boats in the background. My great grandfather owned a 32' boat from AMC Boat works, if anyone has any info on them I would appreciate them letting me know.

I want to thank all who have shared your stories about who you are and what you do. I have learned a lot about all of you and seen many people post that I have never seen post before. We all have a common love of boating and our boats no matter stage of repair they are in and its good to know a little more about you.
Thanks for sharing!

I'm 63 and have been boating all my life in smaller CC fishing boats. In the past I was a factory rep for BMW, a nuke fitter/welder, a professional prototype model maker and finally a senior technical writer for the major US based business jet manufacturer.
Most changes came because of national economic issues......gas shortage in '73, high interest rates in the 80's, mergers in the early 90's and finally an attempted relocation (again).............I'm "retired". For now.
Its been an interesting "ride" for sure.

Sandy and I are 58, I will be 59 on Monday. We have been married 40 years since we went to high school together. We have owned 16 boats over those 40 years. She is an associate dean at the University of Arizona and I own a property management business. We bought our first boat shortly after we were married and have owned boats from 16' up to 46'. Currently we have a 215 CC Triumph that gets used almost exclusively for patrols for the Coast Guard Auxiliary. We had a 46' cockpit motor yacht until last August that we were planning on living aboard when we retire. We bought it in 2002 in Everett, WA and I ran it down to LA that summer. I was district commodore in the Coast Guard Auxiliary at the time and used the boat as my home away from home during my term as district commodore. We later moved it to San Diego until we sold it. We are planning on retiring in mid 2013, so we bought our 1978 F32 in AuGres, MI last fall. Right now it is in storage until I retire in the spring of 2013. I am going to Michigan in late April this year to play on the F32 which we named Sheer Madness. The name came from my love of the sheer line on the F32 and Sandy's feeling that it was madness that I wanted to buy a boat and put it into storage for 2 years before we could use it. I simply asked her if she wanted to live with me for 2 years when I did not own a big boat. Her reply was, "when are we going to Michigan?". We plan to spend time on the boat in the summers and get out of the heat in Tucson. This forum has already been invaluable to me in learning about our new boat.

AK Walker, Did your boat belong to Tommy Dutton at one time? Purchased at J & S Marine? Seems I remember doing some work on that boat a few years ago.

It could have been, the name sounds familiar. I purchased it through my marina, so I never did meet the previous owner. We are docked at Oneida Lake Marina on the southeast corner of the lake. What sort of work did you do on the boat?1967 seavoyager wrote:AK Walker, Did your boat belong to Tommy Dutton at one time? Purchased at J & S Marine? I am 56, live in Dallas, TX. and boat on a local inland lake here. (Lake Lewisville)
I started boating when I was a young man, with 18 & 19 Ft trailer boats and then gave up boating for airplanes and motorcyles. But finally, I have come back to my senses and am back into boating! Two years ago I bought an F25 Hardtop, sold that and bought a nice 1980 F32 Sedan which had been on Lake of the Ozarks for all it's life. I work in a small business in a water sports related industry.

I'm 32 been around the water since a kid with the family boat at my grandfather's house, currently work at a steel mill in Indiana after working for a major engine manufacturer building diesel engines. After giving up my racing dream driving race cars for 15 years bought a 22 BR crownline and ran it for 3 years then moved up to an old F32. Love it and wouldn't want to do anything else right now. There's plenty of projects I'd like to do when I don't work the overtime to support my habit. Also the wife is okay with it and my 4 year old daughter loves the beaches on Lake Michigan when it's warm enough and the new son will grow up on a boat...

AK Walker, I think it was an antenna or gauge, that sort of thing. I remember it was a nice boat though.

I'm 53. Been boating since around 10 years old. Family had a 65 25' Trojan & a 67 27' Trojan. My sister has an off brand "Tupperware" boat. I started as a mechanic, then long haul trucks, then hauling petroleum & cement, Now self employed heating & air conditioning. My only boat is the one I have now. As you can see on my photobucket page I've gotten in it kinda deep. Hopefully I'll go splash this year, 11 years on blocks is too long.
