A good alternative that won't absorb moisture or rot is Divinycell.

Image Image

Divinycell is a semi-rigid PVC foam used as a sandwich core material when strength, stiffness and low weight is desired. It has excellent insulating properties and a closed-cell structure that makes it impervious to water.

Divinycell is a rigid PVC foam with a closed, inert gas filled cellular structure. Produced in a range of densities and thicknesses to meet required specifications. Available as plain sheet, perforated or scored, as contourable scorred and scrimed backed, and as custom planks.

I've used successfully on several projects over the years.

VERY nice work! Impressive. My bow deck is in need of some repair too, been thinking about that, but it seems to be a huge task.

then.... it becomes how do you go about trying to try to match up the repaired area to the "trojan" non skid design of the deck. any ideas?

Life is a compromise, I think colour match is more important than skid pattern because one should be happier that the repaired weak points are gone.
If the match is really a problem for you one can always redo the top gel/non skid pattern surface on the whole deck :!:
Or maybe pay a pro who can match the non skid pattern.... be thankful that Trojans are earlier than the grooved pads used in the late 80's and on which have been through many non skid pattern/score shape changes, try matching those

Is the finished product just gel coat or did you paint?

Thanks for the welcome. I have been putting this off for a few years. I have to take care of this before i lose my deck contour. Any pros or cons on Epoxy's, vinylester, or other

If that is to me... gel coat applied with a stipple roller for non skid.
