helm switchs--wiring?

Post by brucehouse »

Hey everyone---Its the guy with to many questions and heres another for all.

As some know the push button momentary start buttons have 4 spades on the back. Grouped wires of purple, purple with stripe, yellow and yellow with strip. Question is: if a guy was to install a new push button what is the least amount of "spades' he could do it with? And how would he group the wires? anyone have a clue? maybe split them to an on/off and a momentary?
----------------------------------
a note: there is a guy with the original push button switches for sale on ebay. put in Marquardt and you'll find him. selling them for 17.00 each BUT OF COURSE THEY ARE THE ON/OFF NOT THE MOMENTARY.

thanks for the help in advance

yes, the starter button must be momentary. the problem is: original switch has four spades and (if i remember correctly) 8 total wires coming in and out. I cant find a 4 spaded toggle, pushbutton or rocker switch that has 4 spades for all the wires to hook to.
so I am trying to find out can and how would you group the wires to use a 2 spade pushbutton or toggle.

These LMA weatherproof starter buttons are ideal for when electrics may become exposed to moisture, dirt or other contaminants.

Paul those are priced in dollars, and England uses the Pound Sterling not the Euro.

push button start button

Post by brucehouse »

Hello, I first want to thank everyone for the help. I started at the helm with a meter----everything was hot. traced the cables down to the engine room. once there I changed the solenoid just because I had one and tested it-----nothing hot. started tracing the wires back.
the solution to my start buttong not working is it thought the trany was in gear. the wires go---helm to trany to start breaker to solenoid to starter AND the wire to the trany had a break in it about 3 inches up from the connection. repaired and helm start button worked. SO be sure if you have a starting problem, be sure to check the wires at the transmission. if they're not good the entire thing shuts down..

again thanks for the information and I will post pics of my boat hits the water tuesday. to much wind to launch the last 5 days so tomorrow is it.
