Over 150 here on all boats combined.

Already have about 20, most on my 14' McKee.

Don't log many offshore hours any more, as I ride with others (31 Pursuit with twin F300s and 36 Contendor with twin F250s).

Might need a Nat Gas conversion ! ;)

755 hours-- and sombering statistics= over $20 k for fuel

Post by my10meter »

Based on last year:

151 charters (5 hrs per trip)= 755 hrs
4 days of fishing for fun( 5 hrs a day)= 20 hrs
6 tournaments -7 days(6 hrs a day) = 43 hrs

Total = 818 hrs

Total trips- 162 trips- avg 23 gal/trip fuel = 4126 gals fuel

Cost of fuel for 2011 $18,154
Cost of fuel for 2012 with marine fuel at $5/gal $20,630

Anyone know how to make this thing run on water?

I'm one of the "Over 150" people.

Most of these hours will be on my Sea Pro 180 or the McKee 14. Will put in 4 hours Thursday and another 4-6 this weekend.

With that said, I did put about 30 minutes on the Trojan's diesels yesterday evening. Smelled/sounded great!

For some reason I can't participate in the poll....again....

I'll probably be in the 25-50 range again this year.....price of gas may make that number ever lower..............John

Hey prowlerfish I to was supprised by the high number of hours people are saying they are going to do this year. But I guess if I included my inflatible and the Shamrock I fish off of my numbers would be a lot higher. I just figured where asking about our Trojans and captain Dana you definetly are doing your part for the economy by burning your share of fuel.

Hours

Post by TADTOOMUCH »

I think I will run the engines and take her out for about 55 hours this year unless gas prices go above $5.00 then it might be a little less.

Still cheaper than going to a shrink.

i wish I had a meter on the small boat. we cut alot of spending cost in life just to be on the water from may till december. 5 times a week is a real # we love it, but it hurts and we dont want to slow down. almost dreading the day the Rubber Guppy finally splashes :x 2 marina payments arnt looking to exciting either. We already agreed the small boat cant go.... OH decisions.... where has the world gone??? Thats not a real question IMO

Ways to save $$ on fuel

Post by my10meter »

To answer the question on my fuel consumption-- With my 3 blade props I was averaging 26 gallons per trip.(on a typical trip our run out is under 5 miles) I switched to 4 blade props and dropped to my current consumption level. 454 carbed gas- electronic ignition- good tune

With that being said- I have been seriously investigating added a 3rd engine(diesel with a 3rd shaft and modern fold up 3 blade prop ) just for trolling. Based on the 25-30hp I would need for trolling- consumption would drop from 2 gals per hour trolling to .6 gals per hour.

At the $5 a gallon fuel price- and based on 150 trips per season- this could save me about $4500 a season. I would do the work myself and I believe I could get this done for under 7-8k. The additional 3rd engine is paid for in 2 season and puts a $1000 in my pocket in season 2. After that- $4500 a year(or more or less depending on fuel and my business trend- Current goal for 2012 is 175 trips- April 1st- October 26th)

Just what I need- another project.
:)
