F30 sport fisherman deck soft spots

Post by james264 »

Hi Guys new to the forum great site !!I have a 78 F30 that I have owned for about 14 years recently I notice a soft spot on the bridge by the ladder I drilled several holes in the deck with the intention of injecting West System expoxy into them . My question is this :the holes have wet plywood when I drill them any ideas where the water could be coming from ????? The ladder bolts ???Any F30 experts run into this problem before and am I going about it the right way ???? I sure hate to tear out the headliner below ,the soft spot is about 16" in diameter . Thanks Jim!!

I had the same problem on my F36. I would recommend sealing the obvious leak areas (like the flybridge mounts), then mixing the epoxy with a thickening agent before injection. I used a mixture that was like mayo; injecting 2 caulk tubes at a time (to prevent major thermal issues). There were no problems - it worked great. If there is wet coring present, you may want to consider Smith & Co. Epoxy (from Jamestown or Dr. Rot).

I discovered this problem on my F30 today... I was planning on redoing th the headliner in the interior because its stained and ugly. Right below where the softspot is theres a stain on the headliner.

Should I remove the headliner and deal with the problem from the bottom or should I just drill holes and fill it with epoxy :?:
