Just had the bottom soda blasted...it was a tough go to say the least - the 39 year old blue bottom paint was a challenge for these guys. Four hours, start to finish...
Gelcoat condition: as inticipated...entire surface cracked, near all the same....a few spots where factory gelcoat had air pockets. Absolutely no wet spots or blistering.
Cost for blasting $900 plus our HST (13%) = $1017
Big job ahead of me now...skim coat the entire bottom with 2 part Watertite epoxy - bring the gel coat back to smooth again, sand, prime, sand, then paint (white high gloss 2 part finish).
Using all Interlux products $429 worth...should be enough with a bit left over.
Had enough of ablative antifouling paints over the years, going to try to wax the heck out of the bottom as others here in L. Erie are doing with success.
Lots of folks here run with no bottom paint. About the worst part of it is the algae that will build up on the white bottom. Most folks spray on some Slimy Grimy or similar at the end of the season and it just falls off with the spray from a hose.

I know exactly what you're talking about with all the hairline cracking throughout the bottom. I've looked into this and keep coming up with the same suspect; too much gel. Fix it right now, so you don't have it coming back to haunt you later.
She was a 1969 36 ft wooden beauty with big blue 440s that we'll miss forever.
