REPOWER UPDATE
Moderators: BeaconMarineBob, Moderator, BeaconMarineDon
hi all who have followed my repower expidetion. I spent three hours under water this past saturday scrubbing the bottom of LARK, i cleaned and burnished the props and rudders. (its been a while and certainly before the maiden voyage with the new engines)
It had a fair amount of soft growth, not a lot but some
My wife and I took the boat up to the Bali Hai for drinks that afternoon-evening, get this
100 gal fuel
40 gal water
two adults and a 14 year old
20 knots !!!!!
it was awsome -she ran perfect, we cruised out of glorietta bay at 7-8 knots, we cleared the bridge and came to plane and 20 knots in seconds
we found a wide open guest dock at the Bali Hai, great drinks and appi's and a nice moonlit cruise home
(google Bali Hai san diego)

and that's why I would/will most likely do the same, hard to put 60k in to a 40k boat...gettaway wrote:I would have preffered diesels anyday over the gas engines, if not for safety alone, however, I got a great deal on the 165's and honestly, the boat will never be worth the price of new diesels, this directed the project.

We repowered with MarinePowerusa.com gas for the exact same reason.
I went with 6.0L 375 hp with 2.5 to 1 gears for the low end torque.
It is our intention to cruise at trawler speed and run only when pushed by circumstance.
Been very fun to follow the progress of your project. Inspiring when things get me bogged down here in my real world of grinding sanding and sweeping up dust!
