The boat was recovered 3 days after the earth quake, which occurred on March 11, 2011 and was a Friday. He reclaimed it on Monday, the 14th of March, 2011.

This story is told, about a year later...

No matter what his motives were, it was a very courageous act and appears to be driven by a passion and love for his boat. I think all of us here understand that passion and the sense of loss he must have felt and he decided to do something about it.

I guess it just depends on whether the boat is just something you happen to have, or something you love. The boat, and boating in general, has been in my blood pretty much my entire life. If my cell or drill crap out, I am likely to get PO'd enough to pitch them into the lake. You hit my car, I will be pissed, and we will see what insurance says. BUT if you damage my boat, you are toast.

Yep, it's all just so much material stuff that can all be replaced. I love boating as much as anyone, but I realize it's a THING, and can be replaced. A life, not so much.

I like my boat...paid for .....insured for market replacement...I'd only miss the stuff from our trips and my 1st Chief's hat and the Navy Anchors that Michelle pinned on me...I still remember her tears as she did it, Those things I would miss....But the boat it's two engines and fiberglass...But I do reserve the right to defend
