After The Haul
So, clearly early is never too early when you own an orphan brand, but.....
What is everyone planning for after the haul in 2012?
OK. OK. I know its a silly question, but those of you who have been owners for a long time know just what I mean. What didn't happen that was planned this spring? What was on the list that would have been cool to have done in 2012, but wasn't critical and can wait, so lets just launch it? Who had to say, damn i wish we could, but lets just hope....
I only ask cuz I worked my azz off over the winter to close a deal, and while it couldn't have been nicer, I've already asked for yard space when there is some room after everyone else launches. Nice boat, already have 35 hrs this season, but its coming back out next week. Glass people coming. (35 yr. old delamming center glass.) Artist coming for the name change. (Getting it painted on. ) My buddy Ed is going to go over some hull corrections that have been made over the years. (keel, stbd. front flare, port rear corner, front deck upgrade), new cutlass bearings, rebed stbd. strut, tune wheels, remove and rebed swim platform and hardware, replace two 35 yr. old transducers with modern units, have my Cummins/Onan buddy come flash and tune/clean the gen end of the Onan MCCK, get the rest of the measurements done to have an enclosure made for the bridge, resplash for 5/21.
Does that count as my first 'off season'?

Thx. 1544 Port now. Did some light salmon fishing with the planers Monday, now only 2 hrs between them.Nancy wrote:Great stuff, Michael! 35 hours - wow - I'm seriously impressed.

If you are gonna singlehand in open water on a single screw for fishing in an F-32 I have found weight distribution is key to handling espescially if you have to set lines and mind windage by yourself. Open the windows in the salon, distribute fuel appropriately, espescially if you have the option of the saddle tanks. It will all help you tune the track of your vessel if thats the kind of activity you expect it to perform under.

ROTFL! Pig indeed! Have you been a fly on our wall? But she has many redeeming qualities.Commissionpoint wrote:Trouble is getting that 13 foot wide pig going straight again if you have any wind and you are running on a single without any help.Tight Lines !
If it makes any difference, we installed a new port cutless bearing and rebedded that strut about 13 years ago. Makes sense that S is due. Tuned the props maybe 8 years ago. Hope all the FG checks out OK. We did the foredeck and keel as you know. Our FG guy looked at that bow flare repair when we bought it and gave it his blessing. Swim platform - good move - that was on our medium list.

I'm happy with the F/G maint. over the years and so was Geo. Little, but since my pal of 35 yrs. in the F/G boat repair biz offered to have a look while it was out for paint and windshield glass I had to say OK. He just wanted to poke and prod a bit and said it would be best if we got the platform off for inspection. I said OK.
When we excavate the F/B in 3-5 yrs. I'll make sure everyone gets pics. Vortec/Roller Cam small blocks coming first though.....

We have talked about it ad nauseum already. Best answer was don't buy a 35 year old boat with balsa cored decks. Too late for that.....Nancy wrote: Ask him what ideas he has to avoid that FB dig entirely. I don't think you want to do that just for fun.
Looks like its the Sunbrella/Build Enclosure method for a few seasons. Then if all else still floats, the plan is an airex/polyester solution. Like I said, when the time comes everyone will get to see in pics. Until then no plans to have a hardtop made or leave the bridge uncovered for months at a time.

Ha ha, such a comedian! I think it would be worth it to lift the bridge console enough to fill the screw holes with West System, re-drill and re-bed. I don't know there's enough play in the wires and cables, though. There are so many!Commissionpoint wrote:Best answer was don't buy a 35 year old boat with balsa cored decks.

I dunno. I could pull everything off the bridge including the drip rail and probably add twice my body weight in resin to it. Maybe I'd stop water getting in, but now its 300 lbs of Wests instead of 200 lbs of water. The options are A) crap, and B) double crap. Since it happens to be rather dry at the moment I am going to endevor to keep it that way until the full rehab plan develops more.Nancy wrote: I think it would be worth it to lift the bridge console enough to fill the screw holes with West System, re-drill and re-bed. I make it sound bad maybe, but I don't have to tell you its not really a critical issue in the next several seasons if the current conditions can be maintained or improved upon. Ultimately though the front deck treatment and then some it most likely in the works.

We already did the drip rail, apron, railing stanchions, and chair pedestals. (I told you that, right?) Only thing not done is the console. But all you need is one imperfection, and you've got either crap or double crap.
The chair pedestals and the stanchions are suspect to me....getting those 5" bolts in straight through the West backfill and properly bedded is not easy.
Luckily, it's not critical as long as that sole stays firm.
