F-32 cabin refit

Thanks for all the nice comments

Now this I am not proud of. I started to remove the decking on the lower level (to replace with teak and holly) and after opening the hatch covers I found all this sludge! They have been screwed down and closed for the better part of 8 years, which was the last time I had them opened, and I had no idea that all this was in there.

holy crap !

I am guessing I am in for the same surprise when I opne mine for the same purpose, I am almost affraid to do it!

my lower cabin sole was covered in parquet, no acces panels, so who knows how long it has been since its been opened, could explain the "smell" i hae not been able to clean out

I put one of these in the engine room at the bulkhead ahead of steps to the galley level to keep any oil & crud from getting forward.

These work VERY well, stink too when you replace them.

When I pulled the glued down carpet up the smell was the first thing I noticed. I remember thinking "what the H is that"

Wow Doug. Yucky! I bet you are glad to have discovered it though rather than have it remain unknown.

When John and Nancy redid the floor in my F-32 they edged in the hatches and installed pulls so it could be opened up anytime without having to remove screws. I thought that was a pretty good upgrade and something you may wish to consider while you are in the process of rennovating the sole.

a friend of mine puts a whole bottle of dish detergent( palmolive whatever) in the bilge with 10 gallons water, and goes for a nice cruise with lots of starts and stops, at end of cruise he pumps bilge, he claims it work wonders

Mike, commission point, told me to do this as well. And believe it or not when I got my poor old 25 home. It didn't look as bad as yours. I'm deff gonna make mine accessible. Bleach only did but so good.

Is your cabin wood wor varnished? The new couch looks like it, and in the photo of the floor removal it appears it may be as well. I'm going this route and would love to see how it looks, if that is the case.

Hello Michael, today we had opened this space first time since we owned the boat. It tooks a lot of time to remove the carpet (fixed with srews in front of the kitchen and taped with 2-side tape at the floor).

Found black spotted bilge from oil and stinky too.

Would like to install some similar solution like yours - pictures please

That sounds like a great idea, I might do that later on when my boat is at the level where I need to look around for projects to do. Currently if I don't finish up the cabin quickly I might be have to report to the admiral and explain why we own a boat that we can't use.

Yes all the wood inside is varnished. I did it about 8 years ago and in fact it has held up very well. After the floor is in and the new 1/4 round is installed I am going to sand it all down and re-varnish everything.

I think the varnish looks really great and I friend of mine did the same thing. But I think it also makes the boat look dated. Or maybe the right word is "classic" but either way I was thinking about covering some of the wood with something like cloth or paint.

Cut and test fit the lower deck teak and holly. What a pain, if anyone plans on doing this just remember even if it looks square, it isn't. If I did this again I would make a pattern first, compared to the salon this area just has to many little cut outs. I must have made 5 trips to the dock for trimming on each floor board.

I had to remove the old galley floor, then I found the old old galley floor under that.

I am using 1/4 inch teak and holly plywood. This is glued on top of the 1/2 floor. So far it looks like I can do the salon and lower deck with 3 sheets. Price per sheet is 180.00
