Leaking Tri-Cabin Center Windshield

Post by rcamaine »

Still chasing rain leaks - and the one that is stumping me the most is a rain leak on the middle opening part of the windshield. I have re-caulked the outside corners that had no rubber, but with today's rain it seems to seem through the actual opening part of the center windshield - the one that you can open.

I can not seem to get it tight enough when closed. I tried some weather strip in there, but then had a hard time getting it to fully close.

Not sure if anyone has put in new rubber gaskets of some sorts, or figured a way to when closed make a good tight seal - besides just caulking it shut which I would rather not do.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi for the leaks around the windshield you should unbolt the entire wind shield and raise it up on 1 inch blocks. After you have cleaned all around the contact area rebed the windshield in 3m 4200 and rebolt. As for the center section that opens , cut down the thinnest weather stripping you can find with a straight edge. That is what worked for me.

i've actually been able to locate a replacement for the windshield turn latches at hamilton marine. i'm waiting for them to come in. my windshield leaks at the corners because the weather stripping around the windows has rotted out and the previous owner just applied blobs of caulk in the corner without addressing the underlying issue. a friend of mine has suggested boat life liquid caulk that will fill any gaps then use automotive windshield caulk around the windows. i'm curious about what you guys did for the opening window weather stripping. did you get the kind that slides in the channel in the frame?

Aaron I did use the type that slides around the channel.I put it on the stationary part of the windshield ,and trimmed it back to fit better with a straight edge and razor no leaks .

I currently have my front 3 windows out of my trifly, I have contacted Bob from beacon to se if he can get me new rubber for them, mine are the two piece that hugs the frame, then the plexi goes in then the 2nd piece gets pressed in to spread the rubber ou to give a tight seal
