I'm in love with 2 stroke diesels. 71's espescially though 92's are cool also. Lots of folks bitch about them, they smoke, they are loud, they hunt at idle, etc. Well, they are a bit loud, but excessive smoking or hunting at startup is a result of poor maintainance not bad design. They should smoke and hunt a little from a cold start, but only for a minute. (or less)

I say they are great if they have been taken care of. They last forever. Resleeving them is comparable to rebuilding most any engine, and will make them go for another several thousand hours. General maintainence is easy on them. They are very reliable.

If you don't mind the sound of a trillion angry hornets in your engine room, and they are well kept power plants, I say you will have no trouble with them. In fact I am a little jealous. I am also a little excited for you. The prospect of selling your floating Maytag and getting into a Viking is an awesome one! :P

What HP rating ? Hours since major over haul ? At 450-485 HP they get tired at 1500-2000 hours of course that over 15 to 20 years for the average boater , run easy the can go a lot longer , . Lower ratings of 250-400, will last longer . ( 250 hp will run for ever ) . I like the engines my self . Make sure if have a engine survey , that the guy knows 2 stroke DD and that air box covers are removed at that time so the liners , pistons and rings can be inspected , ( a good engine survey will not be cheap )

Best engine ever!! My dad owned a 40 Egg Harbor and a 40 Viking and both of them had 6.71JT's in them and they ran great. As long as they are taken care of you can get over 5K in hours out of them maybe more

I like the first one. Did you see the trojan 44 in RI with new diesels? I think they want the same money as your #2 but has a fly bridge.

You don't get much better built then a Viking . The Trojan looks sweet , BUT its a Gasser they put 671's in as a option a better choice in that size boat. No flybrige on the Trojan you may not like that . The Carver looks like yours with a cockpit added

Not a fan of aft cabins , but would lean strongly to the Viking ( if the fuel issue can be taken care of ) Carver next and the Trojan , not even in the ruining .

This is assuming they are all in similar condition .

Any boat that I have seen that broker list has always been way overpriced! A 1978......$198,000? Awful high if you ask me!

Hey Tony - haven't seen the Viking but I know they are great boats.

I like #1 also - sweet looking boat and like Ron said - nice cockpit for doing some fishing.

Northeast marine liquidators just sold a 1999 43' Viking MY with 425 hp cats. The list was $129k. From someone who just bought a '87 41 Viking Convertible from the, apparently the boats are going for significantly less than listed. Ahh, to have dispsable money quickly available.
