Another Repower Recomendation

Post by pwollsch »

1974 f36 with Chrysler 280's... They are the M400 model... I hate this, since all info online refers to 318's and 383's....

Looking for Recomendations.... I plan to keep her for another 8-10 yrs.

318's will be marginal.

Larry (PlanSea) here in Charleston has the F36 with the M400;'s. They run well with 20x16 props, but he has fought cooling issues for some time with the double sided pump setup. Other than that, the 400's work well and sound great.

Why not replace with Chrysler Big Blocks (or rebuild your 400s)? Will fit, enough power, same accessories, etc.

Didn't S&R put 6.0's in his?

I'd find out how those are going for him. Thats the last F-36 repower I can remember hearing a lot about.

I really like the 400's performance. A rebuild seams like the best way, would cost less, just not sure on how deep to go. Still need to find where my oil loss is.

Done any testing? A leak-down test might steer you in the right direction - upper or lower end.
She was a 1969 36 ft wooden beauty with big blue 440s that we'll miss forever.
