Need a little help

I need a little help from some of you more intelligent forum members. LOL, I have been restoring a 1968 Trojan aft cabin that i purchased a few years ago. I have completed all of the new planking, decks, exterior work after a haul out and a couple of years in the boat yard working on weekends and when time permited. The hull # on the boat is 56-7016, right engine # is FUK 38R 734830, and left engine is FUK 38L 734832 with the inspector # S. Is there anything that ya'll can tell me about this boat. It is shaping up really nice, but most of the work that I have done on larger boats in the past has been on sailboats and this is the first motor boat "other than small fishing boats" that I have owned. The Port engine I have overhauled and it is running fine. The starboard engine is next in line to be worked on and is not seized up and rotates and seems to have good compression. However someone told me that they beleived that the starboard engind ran in reverse rotation. Just looking at the engines they look identical and I can see no difference. Also, The vessel came with a Onan 5kw genset which was located between the twin 390's in the engine compartment it appears from the owners manual which I found for the genset that it was original equipment on the boat. However it is not working at this time although it also is not frozen up and has compression. I dont know a thing about gensets of this type and would appreciate any help as far as pointing me in the right direction to research it.

Yep, the starboard engine rotates the opposite way.

I have very little experience with gensets, sorry.

any idea where to purchase a starter for than engine?

Napa can usually get marine parts. , or google marine engine repair for your area.

Nice boat for the Lakes. I graduated from MSU and spent many hours on those lakes way back when.

For parts and advice try Bob at Beacon Marine or John Leed at MarineTech in Lancaster, PA.

Ken, gathering from earlier posts, several trojan owners on the forum who have had the Onan gensets expressed dissatisfaction with them. They've pulled them out and put in battery banks. I had a 6.5 Onan genset in my '75 tri-cabin. It did not run-parts were missing when I bought it last year. I just pulled it out last month & anticipate going with batteries. Unless you are going to be away from shore power for an extended period, days or weeks, and need to run your ac or cook on your stove, batteries may be the way to go for you.

Good parts source is also http://www.marinepartssource.com. They also publish a catalog and are very helpful on the phone. Carry lots of parts and components for Chrysler, etc.
