What do u think?

Post by BRADMAN11 »

I have a 77 f30.... I went on vacation and upon returnung I went to go out on her and found out that the port motor woyldnt turn over. Upon further testing by myself it appears that the head gasket has leaked. When I remove the plugs water shoots out as the motor turns over. What do u think am I screwed or is this something that could be fixed. Thanx

Both, are you sure it is not a manifold failure?

Water or coolant ?

If your fresh water cooled and had a head go bad you would have coolant in the engine and the coolant would be low . If its water then you have a riser issue or possible manifold issue ( if the manifold is raw water cooled ) .

I would start by removing the head that the coolant is coming out of. If you have it coming out of both heads then I would remove the intake and check it very closely before removing the heads. If the coolant is only coming out of one side then I would think it may be a head gasket problem. Inspect everything closely AS you tear it down. I do not envy this job, to many variable's. Please make sure your exhaust hoses are plugged up good and tied up high in the bilge!

Coolant in cylinders on both sides of the engine or just one side? Before removing heads, take a look and see if you have fresh water (coolant) cooled exhaust manifolds. If so, they could be leaking instead of a head gasket so check this before tearing down any further.
