That's correct Big D, this is the device that is in-line on the tank vent hose. By the way, the routing of the hose and orientation of the 90 degree fitting at the hull appear to be correct and just as you described. I can take some photos of the surge device, but here is a link on some installation instructions for a vent that also shows this optional part. Thanks. Mike

Yup exactly what I was talking about. Remember also that this is a mechanical device inserted into the venting circuit that can fail. Like anything else, they don't last forever. Something you should keep in the back of your head if you ever experience fuel starvation sumptoms. It's a good idea to label the side of your tank in a prominent spot indicating the device exists so that you, a technician, or future owner is on notice that the component is there and should be considered during the diagnosis of a fuel problem.

By the way, I like the type of hull vent fitting they show in the diagram. It is flat to the hull rather than protruding out. I've installed a few. They don't get broken off as I've seen so many other do when rubbed the wrong way.

Sure why not? Check into some with the added feature of giving off a gurgling sound as the fuel approaches the unit indicating to the person fueling the boat that the tank is full.

Boat us did a test on check valves for tank vents the best was the LG100 from racor . I had a hard time filling with out spilling out of the vent ( diesel foams real bad when filling) I put a set on and never had a proplem with spills again . there are others but the LG100 was one of the few rated for gas and diesel . the small LG50 rated good also . I will try and see if I can find the test .

Hey guys, just following up. Thanks for the recommendation on the Racor LG100. I found the other tank to have the same problem where the surge device split apart. Thankfully I didn't have water coming in on that side or I would be cleaning out that tank as well.
Does anyone have a trick to make sure ALL of the gas and water are removed from the tank? I went in from the top of course, towards the backk where the sending unit is located. I could tell there were some baffles in the tank as I was feeding the hose down and angling it as far back as I could to the corner. Is there a better way to go about this? I just want to make sure I get everything out. Also, does anyone recommend some type of cleaner to rinse and remove leftover deposits and debris after the tank is emptied? My tanks are aluminum by the way. Any suggestions would be very helpful.
Thanks. Mike
