Big D wrote:Paul, before you commit, do some homework like perhaps a Google search on issues they might be having under real world conditions. I know with Merc for example, there were a few quirks with the in mind that there is no room for poor vessel wiring with these units. ................A 5 volt reference and CAN bus architecture has little tolerance for voltage drops. I know that's not an issue for you but may be for others reading this.
Big D I work with this every Day ( Can) no homework needed ( I hope), My comments are based cable vs a system that is added on like Glending controls and others . As thats what I belive is being disused . Now The systems where the engines t/body or common rail system , injection pump etc and gears are built with electronic operation in mine is a different story ,normally a much better system .
Cables are becoming a thing of the past

Yeh. Thats probably the situation. I haven't dug into it yet. I rarely go up on the bridge. If I had an enclosure I might use it more. Mostly it just stays covered. Once in awhile I pilot from up there at night, but thats about it. So right now its not a pressing problem. Its just annoys me a little bit.
