Engine room vents, where are they?

Post by DOUGNASH »

I was reading another post and got me thinking.

Besides the vents that are hooked up to the blowers to remove air from the engine room, I think thats all I have.

How and where does fresh air get in to help the motors breath?

Same grates or vents, little to no air movement at idle speed or a vessel not moving requires ventilation to help expel and draw fumes up and above the lower bilge area. These same grates or vents, under a vessel's power and moving, are the ventilation for the engine room as well. These openings provide air for engines to breathe.

Blowers don't remove the air from the engine room, they expel the fumes. Look at the blower hoses next time, they usually go downward to the bottom of the bilge...fumes are heavier than air, you also won't see grates below the engine line...

I have more vents on my 83 10 Meter. I don't know if they were added or original.

If I can re-remember how to post pictures I'll do so, but on my 11 Meter Sedan there is a set of white plastic vents similar to the one in the picture from jhalb. On my boat they are above the rail and located approx four feet forward of the blower vents. Each one has a couple of 2 - 3 inch hoses that drop down into the engine room in front of each engine.
