Generator rpm fluctuates with load

Post by nitro115 »

Hi,

I have a 6.5kW Onan. After a few minutes of running I turn on the A/C and the rpm begins to go up and down. This stops after about 1 minute, or so and the genset runs at a steady rpm. Does anyone know how to fix this? It's not something I cannot live with, but it's annoying. Sort of.

Thanks in advance!

Yes, mine was doing the same thing. After i converted to electronic ignition, it stopped. Now when the A/C is turned on it boggs breifly when the load is applied and then it picks back up and stays steady. Here's my how to with pics.

You can get them from your nearest Onan Cummins dealer.

If the idle adjustment is a little out, it can cause that. When the unit is fluctuating, try turning it up a notch or two. There is a sweet spot where it will stop fluctuating, but still be OK when under light load.
