I love how this is being sold. Place your bid, you are responsible for it, but you can't inspect it. I suppose that's why they won't get much for it.

The buyer has to pay $149 before they are even told where the boat is and the buyer will never meet the seller. This has scam written all over it. I bet "Brian" doesn't even have title to the boat or the authority to sell it.

The ad does seem suspicious however just a thought here; if I were pulling a scam, I'd be carefull not to include the vessel's reg number in a photo. With a bit of homework, you can probably get ownership history and make a few phone calls. I did a search on the phone number and it is a cell registered in Binghamton NY. Of course with most of these services, to find out the rest of the info, you need to pay a fee.

I would think it may be legit, however the details seem sketchy, like, engines are fuel injected, rebuilt last year, however, it needs exhaust risers, my understanding and experience is that risers are good for at leat 4 years and maybe 6, so, if they were really rebuilt 1 year ago, do you think that they would reinstall bad risers?

Perhaps they changed the spark plugs and distributor rotor.

My thoughts were ... 'donated', or Hurricane Sandy salvage? Normally if something was donated and you were a legitimate charitable organization selling it, wouldn't you tell people who will benefit from the sale of the item? The seller is trying to sell a bunch of other boats, a van, and not sure if the other pics are houses being sold or from vacation trips he took. He also just became very active in trying to sell stuff recently.

It appears to be not that far from me, but I need another boat like I need another wife.

I think the description has lots of problems. Rebuilt engines, but needs risers? Why would you rebuild the engine and not do the risers?

Engines run but the batteries are dead and they didn't try to start them?

I guess if you could see and inspect the boat it wouldn't be as big a risk.

I was just amused by the description.

The seller has several other boats for sale.

2 in Port CHarlotte, FL that ARE available for viewing.

They are also "distressed" vessels

The "story" makes sense.

He buys the donated boats from an outfit like Boat Angel or numerous others.

Markets them on E-Bay.

The problem with viewing is the location, a trailered boat can be hauled to a storage yard. One in the water cannot.
