bilge pump hull valve

Post by Sanctuary 2 »

Have a F-25 it was gutted. need to put new bilge pumps and run hoses.
There are two 1.5 in thru hulls one the port and the other on the stbd side. they are at
the water line. should they be connected there. Or should I put a
new thru hull above the waterline...

Determined to get this in the water this year...

Bielge pump thru hulls need to be above the water line . Trojan put thiers right at the boot stirp area , you should have a thru hull there .

Not good. You'll need another pump to pump out the water coming back through the other two pumps

Ok, so what are my options ?

What do I need to know to install them that close to the waterline?

I plan on spending a lot of time on the hook....

Thanks for the feedback

I am a liltle confused . Where exactly are they ? At they water line ? boot stripe ? On this post you said close to the water line , how close ? If its in the boot stripe area you sould be ok . But is its right at the water line it needs to be raised .(I belive mine are 6-8" above ) Can you post a photo ?

I always put a loop in the hose above the thru hull if its close to water line .( Not at) I would never put a check valve in a bilge pump line .

Looking at this picture you posted:

The white fittings above stripe are suitable heights for generator, sink outlets, scuppers, usually bilge pump outlets are lower.

Looking at this view

You can see where the waterline is below the stripe (4-6"), keep them above that as Paul was saying they often fall around the upper stripe.... just make sure double clamped and have a loop above outlet on the inside between pump and valve/thruhull.

I believe this is what we are talking about. there is one on the aft port and stbd side.
