H Channel for F32
Ordered the H channel for my F32.
I will have a combination of original 3/16" glass and new 1/4" glass so my installation story may be of interest. Bob will give me a rundown of the steps I need to take.
It is going back to Canada with me at month end..... depending on the weather up on Georgian Bay I may start the installation mid April before launch on May 1st.
If anyone has experience with this job I would love to hear about it.
If anyone has any questions ask away and I will post answers once the project is underway.
I also have to replace the starboard front glass pane which got cracked due too much tension...

Re: H Channel for F32
I am in the same 'boat' (
). I have one window pane that the PO had held in place with closed a cell foam tube (like a water weenie but a lot smaller) and electrical tape. There is H Channel there, but looks like the PO couldn't get it back on the window as it sticks out about 18" in front of the pane. I will be ordering new H Channel shortly from Beacon to redo it. I guess I should measure window thickness before I get too much further just in case the glass is not original.
I am more than happy to let you be the guinea pig, and looking forward to hearing about your experiences!

In the process of removing all of the crome and sealent on the side windows, wan't to get rid of the crome and white stripes that show, and create an all black look, including drilled handles through the class for sliding, yes h-track will need to be replaced. Has anyone tried the same.
Season is short, we make the best of it.

Re: H Channel for F32
My understanding from Bob is that original glass was 3/16" and modern glass is 1/4" and the present H channel is designed for 1/4" so you need to put a bead of silicone in the H channel that you use on old 3/16" glass and not on 1/4"... the H channel moves with the glass and slides in the Aluminium window frame.captainmaniac wrote:I am in the same 'boat' (![]()

If you hurry you can get Bob to ship it to me in Punta Gorda and I can bring it up around Easter..... save you the HST and shipping into Canada. Bob is shipping mine on Monday.....

Be aware that Black plastic will absorb the sun's heat and likely cause you problems with premature ageing.Away On Busine$$ wrote:In the process of removing all of the crome and sealent on the side windows, wan't to get rid of the crome and white stripes that show, and create an all black look, including drilled handles through the class for sliding, yes h-track will need to be replaced. Appreciate the offer but I still have to finish figuring out how much I need... I have the one pane I know I need to redo, and need to complete inspection of others to see what else, but work and family stuff is just too crazy these days to let me get near the boat. Heck - I still haven't gotten around to cleaning the fenders that I brought home after hauling Oct 1!ready123 wrote:If you hurry you can get Bob to ship it to me in Punta Gorda and I can bring it up around Easter..... save you the HST and shipping into Canada. It is not white so I don't think mix and match will work unless you plan to paint it.captainmaniac wrote:Appreciate the offer but I still have to finish figuring out how much I need... Re: H Channel for F32
I replaced the port side on the 1977 F-32 , the H channel comes out quite easily, there should be a couple of small sheet metal screws holding the fixed pane H channel in place, if the glass has not been bedded somehow to the H channel, you really just hold the top H channel and slide the glass open or closed, depending on position, but away from the channel, then repeat for the bottom H channel. The fron angled glass may be a bit more difficult, mine was cracked and acually broke apart when removing it. It is laminated and not tempered so it will crack into sharp shards, wear good leather gloves and be careful.

Re: H Channel for F32
I had replaced the front port side window (with the angle) about 5 years ago on my 78 F-32. In my area there was no problem finding both 3/16" or 1/4" laminated. I replaced it with the 1/4" because the price wasn't that big of a difference. It fit like a glove in the original "H" channel and slides sooo good. I also use a lubricant that I use on my model trains that is specific for use with plastic/nylon and metal surfaces. Just a small amount goes a long way. When I bought the boat 20 years ago,I was dissapointed on the sliders movement but using the lube makes them work like they should.

Re: H Channel for F32
Can't come up with the brand name right now but I assume any type that is compatable with metal against non-metal will be fine. Also check with a good Train/hobby shop in your area.

Re: H Channel for F32
The oil I was refering to is liquid and is dispensed from a dropper type bottle about the size and style of "Visine". It seems that the CRC will work too but I'm not sure of lube properties on the metal. Also keeping the overspray to a minimum might be a pain.

Re: H Channel for F32
I am in need of info on how-to replace the channels on my 1986 F-32, but it looks like
My windows are sitting in a double channel should I change them out to a H channel..
Please help, any advice would be helpful. Also do you take the windows out to do this if so how... thanks from the Gaelic Storm

Take the glass out, then the channels will come out with no problem.
