Just an idea for the dipstick ------ cut off what you need for clearance with a tubing cutter then cut the same amount from the end of the dipstick itself---double check on oil fill and you are done---hope this helps , Mike

Email sent. I couldn't attach a pdf to this post. If other people are interested, I'll put it up on photobucket and post it.wolfnnj wrote:Does anyone have a PDF of the electrical diagrams in this year range F-26?

Re: 1971 F-26 Repower Diesel or Gas?
well a minor set back I put oil in the new engine and at about 4 quarts it peed on my leg
Turns out the timing chain cover had a welded piece on it and the weld broke......Chinese peice of &^^(*%$^& that being said I took the entire front end and bottom end apart and redid it all over. I should say here and now I HATE doing things twice! So now all back together again and off of the engine stand waiting to be wired and started.

I wonder what transmission he has it mated to? I don't think the standard Paragon V drive would handle a 454 very well.wolfnnj wrote:I just had to post this one

Re: 1971 F-26 Repower Diesel or Gas?
I noticed on your new instrument panel you have two fuel gauges. My boat had two non-working fuel gauges when I bought it. I replaced them with American Standard Faria fuel gauges (Empty = 240 ohms, Full = 33.5 ohms) and now they read 1/4 F when full and F when they have 8 gallons remaining (they go backwards). Assuming linear resistance change (I know, probably not completely accurate), 1/4 F (full) would equal 188 ohms. I'm going to install European Standard Faria fuel gauges this Summer (Empty = 10 ohms, Full = 180 ohms). Hopefully this will get my fuel gauges working close to correctly (I'm not expecting perfect). I'll let everyone know once I find out. Make sure to take into account the resistance of the senders and the circuit wiring (parallel vs. serial) when changing to two gauges.

Its not a v-drive . On you gages just get matching senders or gages that match yours

Re: 1971 F-26 Repower Diesel or Gas?
There seems to be uncertainty regarding what the ohm values of the original sending units were. There also seems to have been a change when a PO went from one fuel gauge to two. I'm not sure if this is a parallel circuit vs serial circuit issue or not. Changing the gauges is a lot easier than changing the fuel senders. If the European Standard gauges don't work, I'll need to eventually replace the senders. I'm hoping the European Standard gauges work like I expect them to. Changing the fuel senders will be a real pain in the a$$.prowlersfish wrote:On you gages just get matching senders or gages that match yours

Re: 1971 F-26 Repower Diesel or Gas?
Interesting , you can always check the sender with a ohm meter ( gage disconnected ). You said the PO when from 1 gage to 2 ? That could be the issue .Duel gages take different senders Do you have a Fly bridge ? Take one gage out of the circuit at a time and see what happens .
