Stupid Question

I know they say there's no such thing as a stupid question but I'm thinking the one I'm about to ask is..... I'm getting ready to change the oil in my motors, Merc 330hp gas 350's. Based on responses learned on the forum, I went and bought Rotella T 15-40wt. On closer examination I noticed it says "Heavy duty diesel engine oil". I can't imagine any reason why this oil shouldn't be fine......however, having spent close to $6500 on a new engine year before last I want to make sure.......thoughts???.....Thanks.....John

I'm not sure on the newer engines but my older crusaders require the zinc in the oil and 15w40 still has it in it. That is what I use in my boat except its wolf head brand.These marine engines can use all the protection they can get IMO. If it was me I wouldn't hesitate to use it!

The Rotella T 15-40wt will be fine . it also meets gasoline engine specs. I have used it for years on both gas and diesels boats I have owned. It is the oil of choice when I service someone else's boat or recommend a oil. 15w-40 is a great all season oil .

They can be 454s But in this case these are 330 hp 350cid engines they also made a 330hp 440 cid .
