Tri Cabin dog ramp

Post by mark30h »

We've got a 79 fri and 2 80 plus pound pups that we would like to take boating with us. The problem is getting them down to and up from the swim platform. Has anyone come up with a ramp design that would extend out far enough and be able to be removed and stored? Ive dismissed the hoyer lift; the electric winch and sling and-, the doggie door on the transom so the dogs can jump in from the swim platform to the aft bed.

Seriously if anyone has a design id be interested. The 36 fri is an awesome boat but this is one limitation.

I know Aaron has no problem getting his dog on his tri, but his dog is easilly carried, so maybe is more a limitation of certain breeds and not the design of the tri-cabin. I use mooring whips, and my dogs will jump a 3 1/2 foot gap from the dock to the cockpit. Maybe just some more practice and they'll find their own way that works?

Heres one of Ewan and Alistair from yesterday.

maccabee can be easily lifted onto ENTERPRISE yes. although, as of late, it's more difficult now than in the past due to slowly returning range of motion issues. one of my slip neighbors have a boxer that was quite the challenge to get on and off their 46' chris craft motor yacht. greg built a ramp from the deck to the finger pier, and brandie navigates it quite well. i will some pics of it and post it here when i go down to the boat this afternoon. trust me, where there is a will there is a way when it comes to getting our 4 legged friends on and off our boats. as boaters we have an innate talent to think outside the box. well, most of us anyway. if we put our collective heads together, i'm sure we can arrive at a solution to the canine transport issue.
CP, like i've always said about your dogs... they are absolutely handsome. what a great pack you have there. hell, if your engines crap out, they could probably pull your boat from shore. i'd love to meet them someday.

Thanks Aaron. They are a fun group for sure. The pic above is the boys. I have a girl too. Her name is Fiona.

My friend has a painted plywood ramp with strips of wood across the top. only a dog can use it and he lays it down on the swim platform when he needs to take it with him. I'm not sure about a 80 pound dog though. My little dog hates the water so we need to carry her on and off.

i love how she is just chillin out..... maccabee has a similar pose when it's hot and he needs to cool the 'boy parts'. that's after he lays down in the back yard, smack dab in the middle, collecting heat like a solar collector.
nothing like the warm touch of a cold nose!!!

Shiba Inu. Cool dogs. Spitz Family like the Malamutes. Shiba Inu is to Siberian Husky what Akita Inu is to Alaskan Malamute. All Spitz dogs.

hey CP, what breed is your pack? i forgot. a buddy of mine that i fly with raises akita's with his husband. (they got married in dc a month ago---hey, a new business prospect for you catering wise.....) anyway, their akitas are the most friendly canines i've had the pleasure of meeting. i met them when i was in the middle of my radiation/chemo and was really not feeling well. do you know those four dogs came up to me, sat down and literally formed a 'healing circle' around me. andy told me sit down and watch what would happen. they moved in closer and maintained close body contact. every time i tried to move around, they followed. amazing creatures. i saw them a few weeks ago and they still remembered me.

My pack are Alaskan Malamutes. Ewan is a Kotzebue (hence he looks like a wolf.), and Alaistair and Fiona are M'Loot.
