Im new here. Need info on Trojan Recalls
My name is Bill and I am about to purchase a 1988 33ft mid cabin express. I have read some very good posts here and I am hoping someone may have the information Im looking for. I have not had the survey done yet but it will be done prior to purchase. There is a boat report that shows that there was a recall on the hull construction and hull fasteners on this year vessell. I am trying to find out what this recall covered and then I can find out if this vessell was ever fixed. I have not been on her yet but she looks very clean and very well cared for, and I dont want to miss anything with my surveyor and in my evaluation before I purchase. If there are any other items I should check real hard on this vessell, I would appreciate any help. Thanks, Bill

Re: Im new here and have some questions.
Welcome, you'll get some good answers shortly I'm sure regarding your query.
If you do find out what the recall was for, then you should be able to address this concern with your surveyor as to whether it was repaired or not, and if so, his opinion to the workmanship. I'm not sure you'll be able to track down any dealer who may have corrected this unless Bob here at Beacon can run the HIN for you and report.
Good luck!

Re: Im new here and have some questions.
Jamie, thanks for your response. Your right not sure if I will ever find a dealer that may have took care of it, but if I can at least find out what the issues were I can have my surveyor make sure that the repairs were done. I'm looking forward to being a part of this site, I have read a lot of good stuff here.

Re: Im new here. Need info on Trojan Recalls
I only know of 2 recalls on Trojans , one on the early F32 and one on the Carver built TROJAN 370/390 , these are the the only ones I can find listed anywhere .
What is your source ?

Re: Im new here. Need info on Trojan Recalls
I remember reading something about hull blisters which the factory paid to correct. I think those were earlier 10 meters though. I have an '88 as well but mid cabin, not express.
This would have shown up long ago if it was an issue. I'm sure your surveyor would pick up an blistering issues as part of the survey. Ironically, blistering is NOT a widespread issue on the Intenationals.

Re: Im new here. Need info on Trojan Recalls
The information on the recall was included with the boat history report from boathistoryreport.com. It was included with the vessel description I got from the broker. The report stated that there was a recall on the hull fasteners on the 8.6 meter ( doesnt apply to this vessel ), and a recall on the hull construction of this vessel. I just want to make sure I know what the issue was so I can have my surveyor be extra diligent in his inspection. A recall on hull construction seems very serious to me, and is certainly worth investigating. Any help you guys can give me would be appreciated. This is my first "big boat" purchase and I want it to go right. Thanks

Hello and welcome to the forum. I hope you find the recall you are looking for but if you can't I am pretty sure that collectively the Members on this site can answer just about any known problem with these boats. Good luck with the purchase.

Re: Im new here. Need info on Trojan Recalls
I guess I would not be concerned if there was a recall as the company is no longer in business!
Hull construction issues are structural issues and a compentent surveyor will find most that wold be "deal breakers".
I've never heard of boathistoryreport.com but buying a larger boat is not like buying a car with carfax! I've spent money on surveys and have not bought the boat that I had surveyed. It's worth it and is usually required to get insurance, so you would have to do it anyway.
We have a 1990 10 Meter Mid-Cabin and as I researched the model the structural issues were mainly rotten stringers. There are limber holes cut in them to allow drainage and these cutouts were not sealed. Water will find it's way into unsealed wood and can be detected by a surveyor.
I guess my thoughts would be that this is a "test of time" situation. If it surveys well, then it was taken care of or not an issue.
The 10 Meter is a tremendous amount of boat for the size and when you find the right one you will love it.
Good luck and let us know what you find out.

Re: Im new here. Need info on Trojan Recalls
There is no recall . Trojan records are kept by both Bob (beacon) and John Leads at marine tech , John was also a engineer at Trojan and involved with the 10 Meter . I talk to Bob today and he contacted John . There is no record of a recall and If there was he would have remembered . I would have no worries on this issue . If there was a hull issue , recall or not It would have come up on this site .
As I note before no recalls for Trojan on the Coast guard list other then the 2 I posted . Did they happen to give you a number with it ? Often it turns out this type of info pertains to another type / brand of vessel

USCG Recall database for Trojan only has 1 entry ....for the F-29(?), but it appears to be for (256) 1980 "F-32 F-3" boats with bad circuit breakers:
