Vacu Flush does not shut off

Post by todd brinkerhoff »

I will premise this with the fact that I do not know much about the vacu flush system (other than its basic premise), nor have I started messing with it. Last year, the system seemed to work fine, and would shut itself off after about 20 to 30 seconds of pumping. This year it is not shutting off at all. It seems to have a good seal at the toilet, and plenty of suction. It also is pumping ok. So I now hit the panel switch when I need to use the head.

Any suggestions of where to start?

If it is keeping water in the bowl, it's likely you need to replace the check valves at the pump. You probably have 4 of them; 2 on each side inside the tubes that come out of both sides of the pump.

Water is staying in the bowl. Thanks, I'll start there.

By "check valves" do you mean duck valves

Yes. There could simply be something keeping one or two of them open but they are a maintenance item, eventually loosing their shape and the ability to make a proper seal. If I go through the trouble of opening up the system, I'm replacing the valves even if it's clear something was stuck there. It's like someone asking me to check their impellers; I don't check impellers, I replace them!
