Onan 9.0 KW Generator Oil?

I do not own a Trojan but I do own a 1988 43' Wellcraft San Remo. I started to buy a Trojan F36 and joined here and did a lot of reading and found a fountain of information. In the end however I got a good deal on a San Remo and went that route. But if you guys don't mind I would like to stick around as there are many knowledgeable people here on this forum. Now for the question at hand. I am doing some fluid changing on my boat and I am wanting to do the Onan 9.0 KW generator next. I think this generator calls for SAE 30 oil. I think I would like to put full synthetic in it but I cant find a SAE 30 Full Synthetic oil. Would it be ok to run 10w 30 in this engine?

I think you'll find thatyou can use synthetic multiweight where you would not use dino multiweight because the limitations of dino multiweights in marine use don't apply to the synthetics.

On the other hand, even with dino oil and proper care the internal engine parts on your generator will last forever, or at least until everything else on it rusts away.

Onan Generators are a little sensitive with the oil pressure switch interlocks. You could find yourself with a generator that cuts off. Always best to stick with the recommended oil.

I would stay with the 30w

I'd stick with the dino oil and 30 weight not multi-vis oil. Genny's are really particular. You don't run them long enough to warrant synthetic oil cost anyway as the yearly change interval will be sooner than the hour run interval to need to change oil.
