Regulator replacement 318 Chrysler

Post by Cmount »

Prestolite VSH 6201 U...I don't think they make it any longer. It smoked up last night and I need a replacement part...does anyone know or had to replace theirs and what is a comparable part? I see a lot with the same numeric, but the alpha's are different. And on line it says to use the J series for Chrysler, but wanted an opinion from the group.

I searched the site but got no hits...

Throw it away and convert to a Delco 10 or 12 si marine alt ( built in reg). I have done it on most every boat I have owned .

Great idea! I had no idea, but I had already done that when I installed the new alternator...and I guess I had two regulators on the system...and the old one burned up trying to fight the internal regulator. No idea...I had thought to just hook it all back up just like the one I took off, but when I called the place I purchased it from he was like "WHAT"...just disconnect it and all should be good.

Thanks...implemented already! Just got back from testing and all is good.
