Another 6.5 MCCK question

Post by fpawn »

Over the last 2 seasons have been determined 2 get gen set running correctly. Have it running but will not idle evenly---keeps uneven idle. Heres the kicker. During the high humid weather we had, started it up and ran great! Did this a few days during that hot spell and was fine. Pumping water and sounded great. I went 2 boat last night, started gen set and the damn thing is back 2 its old ways. I have new thermostats, new impeller, checked gas flow, new gas pick up in tank, and had carb rebuilt. Any helpful hints?

Here is one possible explanation for what you experienced---- hot air and high humidity could be causing a richer mixture which the gen appears to like--- cooler dry air= more air available with less water in air which would lean it out a bit, maybe enuf to make it hunt at idle---- I have to say I do not know anything about the adjustments on those gensets ,but engines are engines--- maybe a fuel mix adjustment someone else could explain how to do --- Mike

Two options

1. Adjust your choke a little bit. The choke works on a bimetallic spring. Loosen the cover screws and rotate a little closed or open whichever smooths it out.
2. Adjust the idle mixture screw on the carb. A slight turn will smooth mine out. I sometimes have to tweak mine one day to the next
